LAB MEMBERS
Dr. Farhad Dastur
Principal Investigator
Dr. Dastur is the Director of KPU’s Virtual Reality Lab and a faculty member in the Psychology Dept. He is interested in using extended reality technologies to better understand persistent problems in psychology and to explore new frontiers in the human mind.

Jasbir Dhanjal, B.A. (HONS.)
Lab Manager
Jasbir Dhanjal is the Lab Manager of KPU’s Virtual Reality Lab and holds an Honours degree in Psychology with a minor in Counselling. Her research focuses on cognition, particularly latent inhibition and nicotine use, with an interest in how cognitive processes shape learning, attention, and behavioural responses. At the VR Lab, Jasbir supports research coordination, student mentorship, outreach, event planning, and hands-on VR demonstrations. She is especially interested in how virtual reality and artificial intelligence can enhance education, mental health, wellbeing, and immersive learning, while making psychological concepts more accessible in cognitive and clinical contexts.
Zhane Ordillano
Event Coordinator | Research Assistant
Zhane Ordillano is the VR Event Coordinator for KPU’s Virtual Reality Lab and a graduate of KPU with a degree in Human Behaviour and Applied Psychology. Her interests include human factors, cognitive ergonomics, UX research, and understanding human behaviour through applied research. Her role involves supporting VR event logistics and creating accessible educational experiences that showcase virtual reality in psychology, education, and human-centred technology.
In her free time, she enjoys art, video games, bouldering, fitness, and reading.
Jasleen Notay
Communication & Engagement Lead | Research Assistant
Jasleen is currently pursuing her BA in Psychology and a minor in Counselling. In the lab, she supports communication, engagement, outreach, and lab initiatives. Her interests focus on how virtual and augmented reality can be used in research to support mental well-being, social-emotional regulation, education, and youth-focused learning experiences.
David Murray, B.A.
Research Assistant | Graphic Designer
David graduated from KPU in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Counselling. His research interests in the VR Lab include large language models (LLMs), virtual reality, and disgust sensitivity. In addition to his research work, David contributes to the lab as its resident graphic designer, supporting the visual design of lab materials and projects.
For fun, David enjoys distance running, going to the gym and cooking savoury food.
Trisha Magbanua
Website Coordinator
Trisha is a KPU alumna with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Behaviour and Applied Psychology. As the Website Coordinator for the VR Lab, she supports website updates, content organization, and digital presentation. Her interests include technology, UX research, design, and learning new skills that support her career goals.
Outside of the lab, Trisha enjoys playing a variety of video games, creating digital artworks, reading books, and learning new skills like coding languages (HTML and CSS), and Figma.
Jessica Ireland
Resource Content Creator | Research Assistant
Jessica is currently completing her undergraduate studies in Psychology. As a Resource Content Creator in the VR Lab, she develops research-process resources to support students and lab members. Her interests include how VR technology influences motivation and development, particularly in educational settings. In the future, she hopes to pursue clinical psychology or continue working in research.
Outside of the lab, Jessica enjoys playing soccer, reading, baking, and cooking.
Lucy Li
Data Analyst
Lucy is the Data Analyst of KPU’s Virtual Reality (VR) Lab. She completed BSc in Health Science (Honours) with a Minor in Biology at KPU. Her Honours Research was conducted in the VR Lab. Her research evaluated how watching a normal video compares to playing a VR game for learning how to cook a healthy recipe. She is passionate about supporting lab members by assisting with the collection, processing, and interpretation of research data in the VR Lab.
In her free time, she enjoys listening to music, crafting, and volunteering at community events.
Paneet Gill
Research Coordinator
Paneet holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from KPU, with a focus in Applied Psychology. As a Research Coordinator in the VR Lab, she supports lab members by providing research guidance, helping refine project ideas, and assisting with research development. Her interests include human factors and ergonomics, technology, user research, behavioural economics, and the application of virtual reality to language acquisition.
In her spare time, Paneet can be found learning new languages, exploring the city, or binge-watching Brooklyn 99.
Zsalve Salazar
Research Assistant
Zsalve is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Human Behaviour and Applied Psychology. Her interests in the VR Lab focus on understanding how technology and design influence human behaviour. Through this work, she hopes to gain meaningful hands-on research experience.
Outside of the lab, Zsalve enjoys going to the gym, cooking, and baking!
Thawab Ali
Research Assistant
Thawab is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Counselling at KPU. She has a strong passion for research and is particularly interested in how virtual reality can be used to support mental health, emotional regulation, and accessible wellness interventions. In the VR Lab, she is excited to explore immersive, evidence-based approaches that bridge psychology and technology!
For fun, Thawab enjoys creating art, going on long walks, watching movies, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.
Reesha Sidhu
Research Assistant
Reesha is a member of KPU’s Virtual Reality Lab and is pursuing a degree in Psychology with a minor in Counselling. Her interests focus on clinical psychology, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and how immersive technologies can support mental health and well-being. In the lab, Reesha supports research, literature reviews, Speaker Series coordination, and VR/AR event programming. She also developed an immersive mind-body experience using relaxation techniques and AR effects to promote calmness and emotional regulation.
Kirandeep K. Dogra
Research Assistant
Kiran Dogra is a KPU graduate with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology and a minor in Counselling Psychology. Her honours thesis examined the misinformation effect across slideshow, two-dimensional video, and 360-degree virtual reality formats. Her research interests include memory, misinformation, attention, and how immersive technologies can be used to study human cognition.
Kajal Virk
Research Assistant
Kajal is a graduate of KPU with an Honours degree in Psychology and a minor in Counselling. Her research interests include how emotions affect memory and how mental health tools can be made more accessible in ways that promote social justice. Since joining KPU’s Virtual Reality Lab, she has been involved in workshop facilitation and pain perception demonstrations.
Outside of her work, Kajal enjoys exploring new lands, food, and culture with loved ones!

DR. KAREN DAVISON
Lab Collaborator
Dr. Karen Davison is an award-winning scholar who is currently the Researcher at University of Toronto. Her investigative interests are aimed at food and nutrition practices, interventions, and policies that will foster the generational transmission of physical, mental, and cognitive health in diverse populations. She is currently an Associate Editor for BMC Public Health and Academic Editor for PLoS One. She has been awarded Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) fellowships, the Dietitians of Canada Peer Recognition Award, and Popular Science’s Magazine Clinical Leader Recognition Award. She is the first Canadian registered dietitian to be a recipient of a Fulbright Canada Research Chair award, to be inducted as New Scholar to the Royal Society of Canada (2019-2026), and to be a Fellow of the North American Primary Care Research Group. She has co-authored more than 100 scientific and professional publications that have been featured on the cover of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health and across more than 50 international media outlets including ABC, CTV, and MSN News. Her research has been supported by the Tri-Council Agencies, National Research Council, and Canadian Foundation for Innovation. Recently, she was grateful to receive a Canada Research Chair and is looking forward to conducting research examining the determinants of health and their association with physical, mental, and cognitive conditions.
